AV NCKRC (Auroville NGO Coordination and Knowledge Resource Center) is organizing a One Day Workshop on 'Sustainable Habitats' on Thursday the 14th of September 2006.
This workshop will cover the following areas of sustainability: Sustainability as a concept, Eco Restoration, Renewable Energy, Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Systems (DEWATS), Alternative building technologies (Earth and ferrocement), which will include exposure visits for some of these technologies.

The three day workshop will primarily focus on organic farming with EM (Effective Microorganisms). EM is a symbiotic culture of microorganisms with its basis from nature and human food (lactobacilli, yeast, and photosynthetic bacteria). These organisms are not genetically modified, they are safe to handle and harmless to human health even if accidentally consumed. The areas covered within this workshop include: polyculture, Green manuring, mulching, the use of companion plants and trap plants, plant based pest repellents, the use for solid waste management, sewage treatment, and hygiene management. AV NCKRC is conducting a workshop in collaboration with AuroAnnam Farm on Effective Micro-organism (EM) Technology, in the month of August from the 3rd to the 5th. This is the application form for the workshop.
This workshop will cover the use of EM technology in the following areas: organic farming (polyculture, green manuring, mulching, the use of companion plants, plant based pest replants etc), use for solid waste management, sewage treatment, and hygiene and management.
